The Champion
From absolute beginners to national champions. This is the story of drAIn, our AI platform for urban flooding, and the unforgettable journey of taking our project all the way to Manila to win the Philippines Junior Data Science Challenge.

We decided it was time to build something bigger than just a cool side project. We wanted to tackle a real problem: urban flooding. So, we built drAIn—an AI and machine learning platform that uses geospatial data to predict and optimize drainage management. We wanted to give decision-makers a tool to actually build flood resilience.
But the real magic wasn't the code; it was the team. Every single person brought a different superpower to the table. We argued, we iterated, we solved roadblocks at lightning speed, and we just clicked. It was the kind of collaboration where a wildly complex idea actually starts making sense.
When they called our names as top finalists in the Philippines Junior Data Science Challenge, it didn’t even feel real. All those sleepless nights and debugging sessions earned us a ticket to Manila to present our work on a national stage.
Presenting drAIn was about more than just flexing our tech stack. We were up there talking about purpose and real-world impact. Standing on that stage, looking at the judges, it really hit me: we weren't just students hacking together prototypes anymore. We were actual builders.
Winning the championship was amazing, but the real prize was everything that led up to it. We learned how to communicate, how to lead, and how to stay cool under immense pressure. It was the defining moment of our journey so far, and the best proof that the grind is absolutely worth it.
